NYR general management regretfully inform that captain Esa Tikkanen is to be traded to Dallas organization. Rangers are dangerously close on missing out on playoffs and the team needs a wake up. Tikkanen, a stalwart servant, has not been performing at the expected level for the captain so fresh blood is required.

NYR general management has reached an agreement with LA on transfer of Alexander Mogilny for "Finnkiller" Mats Sundin and Vincent Damphousse. Rob Pearson is the makeweight in this deal.

NYR general management has reached an agreement with STL on a trade of Cam Neely and Bob Rouse for Mike Ricci and Ulf Samuelsson.
Neely, despite his reputation, has been a good servant for NYR. We would like to thank both Neely and Rouse for their contributions to NYR current season.
We are excited for the arrival of both Mike Ricci and Ulf Samuelsson. May we have a successful rest of the season.

STL is a bit worried about this trade. But 2nd line has been too good with Kaamea Kamensky in center, so something had to be done. So here comes Neely, cancer of locker room and wrecker of line chemistry!

Habs busy at trade deadline
Right after the blockbuster deal with the Rangers, the Habs make another deal with Boston Bruins. Habs acquire defender Jeff Beukeboom for Alexei Zhitnik.
"Jeff is big and slow, so that is plus" Habs GM commented the trade. "And I haven't got anything positive to say about Damphousse except that he is French".
